Fun in Boston and MIT madness
Well, I have arrived and spent 2 days here. Unfortunately everything has been so chaotic that I am only just getting a moment to sit down and write an entry. I’m currently in the Boston Mac store, waiting till it’s 8:00 am in Sydney so I can call Vodafone. I have had such troubles getting a phone setup. It’s really weird. Most things in the US are NOTICEABLY cheaper than Sydney. Except phones. Do you know that in the USA you pay to both receive and make calls on your mobile. It’s pretty crazy. That really caught me off guard.Boston is really beautiful in summer, it has really blown my mind. It is such a green city, very spread out with few high rises. I’d go as far as saying it is one the most beautiful cities in the world. Certainly that I have seen. MIT is nuts, absolutely hardcore. It is SOOO big. It takes me around 45 minutes to walk from one end of it to another. I’d say it is around 5 to 6 times bigger than UNSW in area. All the buildings are massive too. Absolutely enormous. The biggest building at UNSW would be considered a tiny building at MIT. Their are some really cool buildings too. Their is one that looks like crushed paper. Their is also an entire manufacturing plant in the uni. I don’t know what it is for but i’m guessing some kind of manufacturing/mechanical research. Also their are constantly tours going through the uni. It seems as though it is a bit of a tourist attraction.I’ve been so exhausted this week. The sheer amount of walking is numbing. I must have done about 4 to 5 hours walking a day. Most people are either riding bikes or skateboards. Their are bike tracks everywhere! I really need to look into one or the other. Unfortunately I’ve been to exhausted to use the pool just yet but am looking very forward to it. It’s free for MIT students too! I’ve taken a fair few pictures of MIT and Boston, they will be up in this blog entry shortly.p.s. I’m enjoying using this Macbook Pro. I think I might splurge and get one.p.p.s I now have skype and a web cam setup. Friends please add me: joshuavanaalst . I’d love to chat!
